About Dr. Ashish Kumar Bansal
Dr. Ashish Kumar Bansal is among Lucknow's most accomplished gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgeons, and brings to Myra City Hospital one of the rarest training credentials in Indian surgical gastroenterology — an All India Rank 1 in the SGPGI M.Ch. Surgical Gastroenterology entrance examination, the most competitive surgical super-specialty entrance in the country.
With over 15 years of medical experience and more than a decade of dedicated GI and HPB surgical practice, Dr. Bansal has performed over 5,000 successful operations to date. He specialises in advanced laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery for complex digestive diseases — including GI cancers, liver and pancreatic disorders, gallbladder and biliary tract disease, and weight-loss (bariatric) surgery. Patients are referred to him from across Uttar Pradesh and neighbouring states for surgical evaluation of conditions where precision, judgment, and high-volume experience make the difference between an outcome and a complication.
He completed his M.Ch. in Surgical Gastroenterology at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow in 2018 — India's premier institute for organ-specific super-specialty surgical training. His MS in General Surgery and MBBS were both completed at M.P. Shah Medical College, Jamnagar (Saurashtra University, Rajkot), in 2014 and 2010 respectively. Prior to joining Myra City Hospital, he served as a Senior Consultant in the Department of Gastrosciences at Medanta Hospital, Lucknow, one of India's leading multi-super-specialty institutions.
As Head of the Department of GI Surgery at Myra City Hospital, Dr. Bansal anchors the surgical gastroenterology, GI oncology, and HPB surgery programme. He works in close coordination with Dr. Juned Ahmad Khan's hepatology and advanced endoscopy team — a deliberate clinical model in which complex liver, pancreatic, and biliary diseases are evaluated jointly by an interventional hepatologist and a HPB surgeon, ensuring the right intervention is chosen at the right stage rather than defaulting to medicine or surgery alone.

Surgical philosophy
“Surgery is the easy part. The harder part is knowing when to operate, when to wait, when to refer, and when to do less. In gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary disease, the right decision before surgery matters more than the technique on the day. That is what fifteen years of operating teaches you — and that is what I bring to every patient who walks into Myra.”— Dr. Ashish Kumar Bansal, Head of GI Surgery, Myra City Hospital
