IBS & IBD · Myra City Hospital, Lucknow
What's the difference between IBS and IBD (inflammatory bowel disease)?
IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is a functional bowel disorder that causes symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, or diarrhea without visible intestinal damage. IBD includes diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, where chronic inflammation damages the digestive tract. Unlike IBS, IBD can lead to ulcers, bleeding, weight loss, and long-term complications. Diagnosis usually requires blood tests, imaging, stool tests, and sometimes colonoscopy.
